The Social Liberal Party (SLP) is a centre-left political party in the United Kingdom established in November 2020.

It is a founding member of the Forward Together Coalition alongside the Liberal Democrats and British Alternative, as well as a member of the People First Coalition.

Ideology[]

The SLP defines its core principles as human rights, internationalism, and devolution, and its stated goal is "to build a progressive and 21st Century Britain". It has expressed a desire to work across party lines in a non-sectarian fashion in order to promote progressive policies – as evidenced by its membership in two separate political coalitions.

In the House of Commons, the Party has advanced policies supporting LGBT+ rights, including reforms to NHS policy regarding transition-related healthcare for transgender and non-binary people, and additions to public education curriculum concerning sexual diversity.

Other policy goals include rejuvenation of the public transit system in order to overcome reliance on private vehicles, and establishment of a mass housebuilding programme in order to "[end] Britain's place as the nation with the smallest homes".

Manifesto[]

  • Establish a London Mayoralty per the London Government Act 2020
  • Push ahead with the Connecting Suburban London (Prospect) Act 2020 to provide London with strong suburban-suburban radial transport
  • Establish devolved government acts for Cornwall, Devon, Birmingham and Manchester once the London Mayoralty exists
