The Prime Minister of France (French: Premier ministre française) is the head of government of the French Republic. The Prime Minister heads the Council of Ministers, nominates ministers to those positions and develops and defends government programs. In the French semi-presidential system, the Prime Minister reports not only to Parliament, but also to the President of France, who confirms the list of ministers nominated by the Prime Minister.
The current Prime Minister is Edouard Philippe, chairman of La République En Marche!, who was elected on 21 June 2020 after the inaugural Prime Minister's French Communist Party, as well as the left-wing parties of the National Assembly more generally, saw a decrease in seats following the Ninth French general election.
