Plaid Cymru is a left-wing political party in Wales. The party advocates for Welsh independence from the United Kingdom.
After a long period of inactivity, Ex Tory Leader Tanya Chesham-Leigh took over leadership, growing the party to 5 members in the first week, and making a net gain of 3 seats in the first election of her leadership. Plaid Cymru also gained its first lord thanks to her leadership.
On the 4th January 2021, Plaid Cymru joined the People’s First Coalition.
With the departure of Tanya Chesha-Leigh and the rest of the party on the 15th January 2021, former Foreign Secretary Jeremy Clarkson together with former Defence and Foreign Secretary Al Gore took over the party, renewed the manifesto and banned Ms. Chesham-Leigh from joining Plaid Cymru in the future.
Party Manifesto[]
The only way we can rise to the challenges and seize the opportunities of a changing world is to change Wales. And that change can only come through the most fundamental of all: owning our own future as a people and a nation. A Plaid Cymru government will build a new economy that works for everyone in Wales.
We will increase prosperity, reduce inequality, and empower sustainability. Social care will be transformed into a service that puts people’s independence above the needs of bureaucracy, meaning that we aim to make people’s lives worth living rather than merely keeping people alive. We will place far greater emphasis on investment in early intervention and preventative health and care services to ensure people can be kept healthy and independent. We will raise education standards and create more opportunities for our children by tackling the funding emergency faced by our schools.
We will support our brothers and sisters in Northumbria in their endeavours, since we share the same goal. And we will stand by the Labour party as their partner, come what may, to make the United Kingdom a better place - for everybody.
