The Right Honourable Mairi Gougeon MP (born Mairi Evans; 23 April 1985) is a leading Scottish Politician. She is the Scottish National Party (SNP) Member of Parliament for the constituency of Angus in Eastern Scotland. Advocating for devolved powers within Scotland with the goal of total independence, she leads a powerful voice for the people of Scotland to ensure that their opinions and concerns do not go unnoticed. Alongside this, Mairi Gougeon promotes several other topical issues including:


Denuclearisation, protection of immigrants, the building of an egalitarian society that advocates equity and fair opportunities, protection of disability rights, decriminalisation of drugs and sex work and necessary environmental protections.

Mairi Gougeon was first elected to the House of Commons of the United Kingdom on the 9th October 2019.

Mairi Gougeon has served as the party leader for the Scottish National Party four times, each serving a distinctive period of service in which she benefited the party greatly. Historically, she is known for her founding of the first 'left-wing' coalition which held relations with the Labour Party and eventually included the Democratic Socialist Party. On her most recent appointment to Party Leader, she won the leadership election by 78.6% of the votes against at time incumbent Richard James on the 26th August 2020.

Serving currently as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Mairi Gougeon has held a long involvement within the United Kingdom Government prior:

  • As a result of the success of the Labour-SNP minority government led by the John Bercow, Mairi Gougeon was appointed as Secretary of State for Health and Social Care. This was regarded as "a large stepping stone for Mairi Gougeon's campaign for Scotland, having a large political associate that would work alongside the Scottish National Party to assist in their goal of a greater and independent Scotland."
  • On the 9th January 2020, after the Forty Ninth United Kingdom general election in which Bob Mcbobbins claimed victory, Mairi Gougeon was provided the honour as to represent Scotland as Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. This would not be the last time she was to serve under this position.
  • On the 16th February 2020, Mrs. Gougeon established a Scottish Parliament with devolved powers granted by the House of Commons. Following this establishment, Mrs. Gougeon formally resigned from the position of Deputy Prime Minister to take on the position of First Minister and to lead The Scottish Parliament and The Scottish Government. Mrs. Gougeon retains her position as a Member of Parliament alongside being a Member of the Scottish Parliament.

On the 20th August 2020, Mairi was appointed to the House of Lords in which she now resides within Eastern Scotland representing the views of Scotland collectively within the Upper Chamber.

Due to her dedication and loyalty within the People First Coalition, Mairi was offered the position of Secretary of State for Defense on behalf of the DSP's first ministry under Mary Wilson. Mairi has set an agenda to which she hopes to install peaceful policy (Anti-Nuclear Weapons) and better the Defence Department in a way that focuses primarily on defence.
