The Green Party of England and Wales is a green, left to centre-left political party in England and Wales. The party was founded in 1990 as a successor to PEOPLE and the Ecology Party, bringing together elements of the environmental, anti-nuclear and peace movements as well as the new left.

The party currently holds one seat in the House of Commons lead by Party Leader Marshall Baker.

In November 2020, the party launched its new 'The future we need' campaign which highlights dramatic inequalities in the United Kingdom, the lack of control and security people feel they have over their own lives, the need for a sustainable and green economy and firm action to tackle the climate crisis.

Party Manifesto[]

The Party has outlined a number of areas where it seeks to make an influence in parliament, notably:

  • A Green Covid recovery and a New Deal that prioritises carbon reduction, job creation and sustainability.
  • Redistribution of power and wealth to our communities – community wealth building, worker directed co-operatives and mutuals, and a decentralised state.
  • Building a participatory democracy for our citizens - sortition and citizens assemblies.
  • Expanded social security – basic rights to food, shelter, childcare, social care, transport.
  • Internationalism at the heart of our migration policy, worker’s rights, capital controls, and urgent tackling of the climate crisis.
  • Transitioning away from GDP to green growth indicators around environmental and resource productivity, societal happiness, well-being and human development.
  • A cross-party approach to delivering social, economic and climate justice.
