Die Linke (German for "The Left") is a socialist party in Germany which aims to abolish capitalism through democratic methods. It's first chair was Rosa Luxemburg.
It is the largest member of the German leftist coalition including the Social Democratic Party of Germany, The Greens and the Progressive Movement.
History[]
Since the end of October 2020, the party experienced a surge in membership, from 27 to more than 40. This surge allowed the party to strengthen and to win a larger number of seats, leading to the fall of the right-wing CDU federal government. The SPD – Die Linke coalition took control of all executive offices of the government.
By 1 November 2020, Die Linke's Kamerad Koupetorska was elected President of the Bundesrat, alongside fellow party members Andreas Kleiz as Vice-Chancellor, Helga Eisenreich as Minister of the Interior, and Christine Emma Beck as Minister of Health.
December 8th of 2020 is a historic day for the party. Andreas Kleiz has been elected as the 1st Die Linke Chancellor, with Twijg Benhaus taking the Ministry of Finance and Christine Emma Beck comming back as Minister of Health.
The party has well-established chapters in Berlin, Hesse, Saxony and Hamburg.
