Amets Aritza is a député in the National Assembly for Nouvelle-Aquitaine, as well as the founder of Abertzaleen Batasuna. She was formerly the Chair of the French Communist Party and served as the first Prime Minister of France. Aritza self-identifies as a Basque nationalist and anarcho-communist (Basque: Ezker abertzale, anarko-komunista).
Political Office[]
Aritza first announced her candidacy for National Assembly in Nouvelle-Aquitaine on 25 May 2020 as a member of the French Communist Party (French: Parti Communiste Français, PCF), and she was elected to Parliament in the first French general election on 27 May 2020. She was chosen by that body to serve as the country's first Prime Minister on 30 May 2020, shortly before the second general election. Although she exited the government about three weeks later, she has remained in the National Assembly since the first election.
